I didn’t expect this..

This weekend, my in-laws invited my husband and me over for wine and dinner, and the next morning I went and had breakfast with my parents.
And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I had this little realization.
You spend so much of high school and college thinking your parents are deeply uncool.

Especially when you’re younger, you’re trying to figure out who you are, build your own identity, and become your own person. Your parents are just… your parents.
Then somehow you get into your twenties and thirties and it all shifts.
Now I see my parents and my in-laws so differently. They’re still family, obviously, but they’re also people I genuinely enjoy spending time with and learning from.

And funny enough, I think social media has brought us even closer.
Because of the videos I make, I end up asking them questions I probably never would have thought to ask otherwise.

I remember asking my father-in-law what he used to eat for lunch growing up. He grew up Hispanic in America in the 1960s, when things looked very different than they do today, and suddenly I was hearing stories about his childhood I had never heard before.

My mom is constantly sending me reels. My parents are basically professional WhatsApp users. And I’m pretty sure my in-laws have watched every reel I’ve ever made.

Which is funny, because there was definitely a time when the thought of my family watching something I posted online would have made me cringe.
Now they’re some of the people cheering me on the most.

So this week, my little reminder is this:
Stop worrying so much about looking silly.
Post it.
Apply for the job.
Ask for the promotion.
Start the thing you’ve been thinking about starting.
Do it because you want to.

You might be surprised by how many people show up to support you once you do.

With Love and Chai,

Rashmi
